Czesław Siegieda – Photographer

Czesław Siegieda (b.1954) was born in a displaced persons camp at Burton on the Wolds in Leicestershire. From 1970 until the eighties, he photographed members of the Polish community based in the East Midlands, treating them as protagonists of a small ‘theatrical world’ in search of a lost spiritual homeland. Beginning with intimate views of his family members, he photographed the life and times of a community displaced by war and unable to return to their homeland. His subjects include daily life at home, religious festivals, Polish Saturday school, the Polish boarding schools, remembrance and commemoration. Czesław Siegieda’s black and white photographs combine a street photographer’s sense of curiosity and intimacy. He has a natural affinity with his subjects; the work reflects his concern with humanity and human dignity.

Great Barn Devon Weddings – Sarah & David

Sarah and David were married at The Great Barn earlier this year. This lovely couple chose simple, but colourful accents to really bring their wedding theme together. Bright blue bridesmaids and cheery sunflowers, plus lots of fun and games in the garden before the wedding breakfast. Captured beautifully by Fiona Walsh. Each year around Whitsun (the eighth Sunday after Easter), pilgrimages were organised from most Polish communities throughout the UK to two Polish boarding schools, one at Pitsford Hall for girls, Northamptonshire, and the other at Fawley Court for boys, near Henley on Thames. These annual gatherings had not only a religious significance, but were also important socially.

Goats’ dung could give farm renewable power | Totnes Renewable Energy Society

A green project to power Dartington with dung has been give a €£18,000 grant to fund a feasibility study. The study will look at how to set up a 100kW anaerobic digester producing energy from farmyard manure at Old Parsonage Farm on the Dartington Hall estate in Devon. Totnes Renewable Energy Society (TRESOC) has won the grant funding for the feasibility study from the Rural Community Energy Fund. If the study proves the renewable energy scheme is commercially viable, TRESOC will be looking at raising cash for its construction through a community share offer, so that the plant is owned by the local community - ensuring the economic benefits from the project are shared locally.

Town Decoration Scheme, Chudleigh, Devon - Chudleigh & District Amenity Society, Devon UK

Visitors to Chudleigh’s Town Hall can view a collection of ten watercolour illustrations on public display in the Rest Centre, depicting a proposed decoration scheme for houses and shop fronts in Fore Street, Chudleigh. We do not have an accurate date for the illustrations, however, we believe that they were created in the mid 1970s on behalf of Chudleigh Amenity Society. They provide a delightful ‘snapshot’ of Chudleigh’s main street as it appeared over 40 years ago.
